cpanel vps

Cpanel VPS is a system that manage the activities on your server's page. This article explains the installation and set up of Cpanel, why you need Cpanel VPS, and how to use Cpanel. Although the  set up process is best operated by techy savvy persons, you can contact your service provider to put you through. Moreover, users hosting websites on a managed VPS are less bothered about activities as such. Nonetheless, this guideline would put you through the right steps to get your server fully on board.

CPanel Install Tutorial

You need to install Cpanel on your server, to carry out several tasks. In managed VPS, you are less bothered about software installation, as your service provider is solely responsible for this action. However, when a new user is in charge of application and software installation, it's often discouraging. Hence, here is a tutorial on installing Cpanel, for both beginners and experienced users.

Before delving further, there are requirements needed before users can successfully install Cpanel. These requirements include;

  • Fresh CentOS 6 or 7
  • Have an installed Perl software
  • Qualified domain/hostname
  • A running virtual private server system

You may wonder what a centOS is? CentOS is one of several Linux-based operators. It is popular among many user due to its fast speed and cheap license fee. CentOS is only operational on a Linux configured system.

  1. Firstly, log in to your VPS as a root client. The root is a term that describes users' usernames in the VPS world. Your service provider should give you root access and password, to perform an administrative function, including panel installation.
  2. Then, use your SSH console to copy and paste the right command line. A graphical user (GUI) is the interface adopted in Linux VPS, against the old command line used on some windows VPS.

cd /home && curl -o latest -L https://securedownloads.cpanel.net/latest && sh latest

Then, wait for few minutes (30-45minutes) as your server page keeps loading while carrying out the installation process.

  1. Once the installation process is complete, a notification message will display on your screen.
  2. Open your web host manager tools, also known as WHM, via;

https://your-server-IP-here:2087

  1. Then, input your root (that is, username) and password provided by your service provider to login. Sometimes, service providers restrict this access due to security reasons. Hence, make sure you sign the required terms and conditions for full access.

Although you have successfully installed the panel, which requires no stress, you will need to set up the Cpanel to activate it. As you read further, you will discover how to set up Cpanel VPS.

How To Set Up Cpanel VPS

Step 1

Sign the agreement form

After installing the panel, as explained above. Login with the client credentials (username and password), and accept the terms and conditions. Moreover, make sure you understand the terms applied, as it's a license agreement about the Cpanel usage. You may know the charges involved, before making system changes. Hence, this gives a basic explanation against any doubt you may have in the future.

Step 2

 Set up your mail

After agreeing to the terms and conditions, you should include your active email address. Hence, you will receive the hostname and resolver. Conclude the setup network by entering 8.8.8.8 in the primary resolver, and 8.8.4.4 in the secondary resolver. Then, save the settings.

Step 3

Set up IP Address(es)

Then, click on step 3, which will display your IP address. If you have an IP address and it's not included, you can add it up. If you have a single IP address, then go to step 4.

Step 4

Input and Configure Nameservers

In step 4, you have to be careful before inputting your option, as this step involves critical stages.

Your Cpanel will provide you a Nameserver you will need to configure. However, you can change this nameserver to your preferred choice, either PowerDNS or bind. Then enter the domain name, and attach it to your nameserver. For example, the domain name can be agroentetprise.ng.com. If you have an existing domain name, you can link it up with your server. If you don't have a domain name yet, you can create one, while your browser will scan if it already existed or otherwise. In other words, getting a domain name is simple.

Then, go ahead to configure your nameserver by clicking the option "configure address record for nameservers and hostname". In this part, you would be required to also input your IP address. Then, add A entries for hostname, and save the fifth step.

Step 5

Adjust settings

Step 5 compiles all your settings, and permit you to change, or leave them as it is. Then save, and click on step 6.

Step 6

Quotas

Finally, make sure you turn on your quotas before clicking the " Finish setup wizard" button. Quotas allow you to monitor your disk space usage and scale up when required. Meanwhile, turning off your quotas may cause issues later. When your disk space gets filled suddenly, it starts to affect your server performance and causes downtime.

Etra note:

Although panel installation is simple, it requires some patience from the user's end. Hence, you should note the following after installing your Cpanel:

  • After installing Cpanel on your server, you cannot uninstall without affecting the whole server system. That is, you will be required to reinstall the server as well. Therefore, contact your service provider if you need to make critical changes to your Cpanel.
  • Contrary to other server operations, Cpanel requires a separate license or update fee. However, this fee may be included in your VPS monthly charges or otherwise. Make sure to reach out to your service provider for analysis on overall payment.
  • Although the "screen" program isn't a must-have before panel installation, it speeds up the lengthy installation process. To install the screen, you can use the command line:

sudo yum install screen wget
